Job Overview

The Safety Officer at Jawa International Limited is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining health, safety, and environmental programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies. This role focuses on preventing accidents, injuries, and environmental incidents while promoting a strong safety culture throughout the pharmaceutical manufacturing facility.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies, procedures, and programs in line with GMP, NAFDAC, and other regulatory requirements.
  2. Conduct regular safety inspections, risk assessments, and hazard identification in all production, warehouse, and laboratory areas.
  3. Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses; prepare reports and recommend corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  4. Organize and deliver safety training and awareness programs for staff at all levels.
  5. Ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE) across the facility.
  6. Monitor and ensure compliance with environmental regulations including waste management and effluent control.
  7. Maintain accurate safety records, permits, and documentation for internal and external audits.
  8. Participate in emergency preparedness planning and conduct regular drills (fire, chemical spill, evacuation).
  9. Collaborate with Production, QA, and Engineering teams to integrate safety into daily operations.
  10. Perform job safety analysis (JSA) for critical operations and high-risk activities.
  11. Ensure all equipment and machinery meet safety standards and are properly guarded.
  12. Track and report key safety performance indicators (KPIs) to management.
  13. Advise on safety aspects during new product introduction, process changes, and facility modifications.
  14. Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings before high-risk tasks.
  15. Ensure compliance with all applicable occupational health and safety laws and standards.
  16. Support internal and external audits (NAFDAC, ISO, etc.) by providing safety-related documentation and records.
  17. Promote a proactive safety culture and encourage employee participation in safety initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Education:
  • B.Sc./HND Graduate with level 3 ISPON Certificate from Alausa.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 3–5 years experience in safety role, preferably in pharmaceutical or manufacturing industry.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of GMP, NAFDAC regulations, and ISPON requirement on safety occupational health & safety standards.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
